Pre-Answer:  Two Words  (9-letters)  (6-letters)

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) | Johns Hopkins Medicine

Answer:  EFFECTIVE EFFECT

(Is this even a pun???  It’s just a bit of redundancy, isn’t it?  Have we ever had a Jumble answer like this before?  Not that I can remember.  Well, as they say, it is what it is!

All of the – correct – words are already on the ralis95 clue word database.  I say correct because I originally wrote down TEEOFF for TOFFEE!  You all know how I have a thing against compound words, so I took it upon myself to Google:  teeoff def.  It came up as an actual word, so I thought I was in the clear.  Much later, I learned that only Vocabulary.com and TheFreeDictionary.com recognize it as a word!  In the interim I was dealing with the problem of having one too many F’s, and one too few E’s.  Immediately, I saw EFFECT as the second word, but I couldn’t make anything from CFIFVTEEF.  So, then I checked off the letters for EFFECTIVE and it left me with CFFTEF.  Same problem either way.  So, then I told myself:  Well, obviously there must have been a circling error in my newspaper!  A few of you have written that very problem to me in the past, so I just figured it was my turn for a fugazy circling.  I figured it must’ve been with either FELINE or TEEOFF.  But, I happened to go back to Google with TEEOFF, and saw that Merriam-Webster, Collins, and Cambridge, and even Dictionary.com do NOT recognize it as a compound word.  It’s either two words, or a hyphenated word.  With that in mind I looked at FETOEF again and finally saw TOFFEE.  The funny thing is I’m just so-so when it comes to the sport of Golf, but I really really love toffee!  If TEEOFF had been an actual word we would have had a new clue word today.  But, of course, TOFFEE is on the database, so no new clue words.  Five of the jumbles did come up as new, for me.  But we’ve definitely seen “roxvet” before.  The answer letter layout formed a fantastic fifteen letter jumble.  But because of the numerous repeating letters the final answer was not – really – a difficult solve.

Pretty standard patient at a doctor’s office cartoon.  Nothing really stood out, for me.  The only thing I’m wondering about is are they referring to an oral medication, or eye drops?  I suppose it could be those injections for macular degeneration too.  For whatever reason WordPress does not recognize the word “macular”.  I wonder what those Limeys call it then???  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
