Answer:  HEART SANK

(THAT is a real bummer!  It’s one of the main reasons why I don’t want a house on the beach/shore, or even along a river.  Storms and floods can take it all away from you.  I’m a confirmed mountain lake man.  Much safer, generally, at least in my mind.

All of the clue words are already on the ralis95 clue word database.  The jumble “finsf” has definitely been used in the past.  The other three appear to be . . . new.  I thought “eegula” was fairly challenging.  The answer letter layout may have been the best jumble of the day.  I found there to be nothing obvious about it.

Great cartoon!  Even thought there is clear devastation, it shows the calm after the storm.  The sailboat on the horizon is NOT sinking this time!  Although, the tilted mast of the sunken sailboat, in the harbor, does kind of hint at the classic version.  Overall, a very satisfying Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The sinking ship is one of Jeff’s favorite themes – almost a Jumble trope – but I guess he won’t put more than 2 in one cartoon frame … too negative! And, in a nice touch, the fourth word, LEAGUE, has nautical associations. More fine work from the Jumble team!

I guess I’m a little less cute than you, Barb. Because, I only had a brief struggle with “league”. Maybe my nose is too big, because I smelled “sniff” right away. — YUR

Oh, yeah, Roy. Considering the theme of the puzzle, the classic sinking sailboat on the horizon would have been both imprudent and overkill. — YUR

I figured the sunken main subject boat was enough sinking for one cartoon. Even if it wasn’t a sailboat. Though the mast in the other slip together with the houseboat could be construed as the entire trope.

As to houseboats, I saw a listing for one on sale in Seattle a few years back. It was pretty pricey, but really nice inside. The primary thing I remember about it was that the appliances were a top of the line brand (Viking, I think), and there was a deck-like space on the upper works with a gas grill. Don’t recall the asking price, but it wasn’t cheap.
