“Tale bearers are as bad as the tale makers – tis an old observation and a very true one.” — Richard Sheridan
(Our first Richard Sheridan quote! I’m assuming that by “tales” he’s referring to gossip, and not legitimate stories. Otherwise, this would be akin to rationalizing Kill the messenger! I’m not sure if I ever acted in a Sheridan play. There was some English play I was in, my freshman year in college, where I was a little high on pain killers, and I mashed up some lines, and delivered a scene or two a little ahead of schedule. The guy I was playing against did a great job of getting me back to where I should have been, but I know it couldn’t have been easy. I’ll have to ask him if he remembers the name of that play. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
