Clue/Question: The policeman who breezed through the radar detector’s manual was a – – –

Answer: SPEED READER
(Did you ever notice that you rarely saw Andy, or Barney, in their squad car, on The Andy Griffith Show? Rarer yet? Seeing them together in the squad car! They didn’t need to run no stinkin’ speed trap! Well, occasionally Barney would conduct his Checkpoint Chickie, on his army surplus motorcycle, complete with sidecar, but that was just because the boy had so much ambition. Life in Mayberry was slow and easy. They didn’t need bulletproof vests, riot helmets, and AR-15 assault rifles to keep the peace. Heck, Andy didn’t hardly ever carry a pistol. Barney had to have one! But, Andy made sure that he only had one bullet. And, he had to keep it in his buttoned shirt pocket . . . for his own protection. Can you imagine Barney Fife on a big city police force? I think he’d be a little too intimidated even for Mt. Pilot!
All of today’s clue words are as familiar as the cast of The Andy Griffith Show. But, all of their jumbles came up as new today! None were all that difficult though. The answer letter layout wasn’t all that tough either. Some days they’re better than others. Maybe, just flipping “droop” for “excel” would have been enough to make it a bit more cryptic.
The cartoon is kind of a mixed bag. The hats make the officers look like State boys, but the backdrop looks like a cityscape. The guy with the radar gun has a kind of Barney Fife exuberance. Always fun though! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
