Visual Description:  Looking out over the links.

ZUGEA  =  GAUZE,  TIARO  =  RATIO,  NMMTOE  =  MOMENT,  SMOCIA  =  MOSAIC   —   Giving us:  AUROMENSIC

Clue/Question:  When they dined in the clubhouse after a round of golf, they enjoyed the – – –

Answer:  MAIN COURSE

(This was more of a sly pun.  At least for me, it was not an obvious answer.  But then again, sometimes I’m just a little dense.  I don’t always pick up on the clues.  I think that might be the reason that I often state the obvious.  But, I guess you’d have to call this one a literal/figurative pun.  Right?

None of today’s clue words came up as new.  Ralis95 can just relax with his beautiful wife today.  Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, with “zugea” having definitely been used before.  It took me a couple of looks to see the “mosaic”.  And, I love mosaics!  The answer letter layout was an awesome ten letter jumble.  For me, it disguised the final answer brilliantly.  I had to write out the consonants, and then the vowels right below them, for me to come up with the final answer.  The big clue – that I did not pick up on – was the waitress – excuse me, server – saying: Here are the entrees.

Great cartoon of a country club dining room!  The picture windows, looking out on to the main course, was what I was concentrating on, much more than the meal.  For me, it was a little sneaky, but definitely a great Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Ah my favorite back again, like an intermittent slice off the tee into the trees. “Main COURSE” today is the second time we’ve had a golf final answer pivoting off the word COURSE in the past 18 months (also “Stay the COURSE” 10/4/2018; at least these were two very different takes on COURSE).

There have been at least three other golf final answers with different pun-pivot words in that period: (SCORE to Settle 5/24/19, SWING by the Course 8/3/2019, and another golf final answer just 15 days ago, LONGed to Do It 1/15/20–okay I *did* like the creativity of that one).

If I could go farther back than October 2018, there would be many other examples of this frequent flyer theme. That was when I had a “What, again?” moment and started tracking golf final answers in particular. Again I’m not minimizing the challenge to our puzzlers of coming up with at least 365 new and fresh puns each year. I would run completely out of new ideas very quickly. And I thank them again for all the new ideas they do find to explore.

Probably a different country club than the Oak Hill Country Club that I also caddied for, back in the earlier 1970s. The one in the photos of this post was kind of my playground, growing up. We fished in the creek that ran through it. Caught crayfish and turtles and frogs. We also fished out golf balls! We hung out in the woods that bordered it, smoking (???), sometimes drinking, “reading” Playboy and Penthouse, trying to act grown. In the winter we would sled and toboggan down some of their hills. I even cross country skied there. And, of course, we would sneak on and play a few holes of golf occasionally. Good times! — YUR
