“There are no traffic jams along the extra mile.” — Roger Staubach
(When I was a boy, there was no man in professional sports who I detested more than Roger Staubach! Why? Because he ALWAYS seemed to find a way to beat the teams I was rooting for. Just so maddening. When I got older I realized just how special this man was. I knew that he had graduated from Annapolis, but I hadn’t realized that he served five years active duty, including tours in Vietnam, while in the Navy, immediately following graduation. He didn’t get to the NFL until the age of 27. Maybe his military career prepared him to be the consummate leader that he was when he turned pro, because Roger was one cool customer. The game was nowhere’s near the pass happy game that it is today, but he could beat you both with his arm and his legs. Over my 50 + years of watching professional football I’ve liked a lot of great quarterbacks, but none who I’ve admired more than Roger Staubach. I will probably never, ever be a Dallas Cowboy’s fan, but for my money Roger was the G.reatest O.f A.ll T.ime! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
P.S. I almost forgot! We welcome Roger to the Cryptoquote Club today! Maybe not as big a deal as the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but still a very high honor. — YUR
