“The world is quickly bored by the recital of misfortune and willingly avoids the sight of distress.” — Somerset Maugham
(Boy, have things changed since Maugham’s days! People may not watch the news as much these days, but with the internet and social media misfortune and distress are the order of the day. It’s unfortunate, because it leads to an intolerant, mob mentality. A kangaroo court of public opinion. People have become cowed to the popular point of view, and that’s kind of pathetic. I still prefer looking at both sides of an issue, and not jumping to conclusions, but I feel like I’m in a rapidly shrinking minority. Remember when this was more the norm? “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. Take this stand these days and you could be ostracized! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
