Cryptoquote Spoiler – 01/20/20

We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear.”   —   Martin Luther King Jr.

(I feel like I cheated a little on today’s Cryptoquote.  I always note the punctuation first, so the “XP.” really stood out.  And, knowing what day it was told me who the author was, and that became like a key for me.  I didn’t even bother trying to identify the Es.  It’s a fine quote.  Dr. King really knew how to turn a phrase.

It is so disheartening that the U.S. has seen such a revival of racial hatred, over the last 12 years.  It started as an ugly reaction to the election of Barack Obama as President.  He never used it as an excuse, but the undercurrents of racism were palpable.  But the racial vitriol that President Trump spews – on a regular basis – has only emboldened those who merely whispered, snickered, and voted against Obama policy initiatives during 44’s two terms, and they have brought their ugliness out of the shadows.  I had always thought/hoped that racism would just die out – like the dinosaurs – but it seems it was more of a dormant volcano, always too ready to reawaken and blow.  Take heart though in some of Dr. King’s quotes about love.  To keep the faith keep this quote in mind:  “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality.  This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Ooh!  A slightly different kind of pun!  But, it certainly works.  Politics is a cut throat business.  And, the media only seems to make things worse, more times than not.  They love dirt, because dirt means ratings.  They’re less concerned with “I get ya”, and more concerned with “Gotcha!”

No new clue words today.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, with “xonti” and “galee” having definitely been used before.  I thought “dmtoeh” was an excellent jumble.  It took me a few looks before seeing the “method”.  The answer letter layout was nicely cryptic twelve letter jumble.  It was the spacing of the final answer slots that set me on RAN OUT.  The EEMETS gave me ESTEEM.

Fine cartoon of a disappointed campaign headquarters.  The staffers and volunteers look sufficiently upset.  Getting arrested is definitely a real reason for news though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
