(A fully stinky pun! Nothing middling about this one. Maybe not the deepest of answers, but this could be the apple of someone’s eye.
Another day where the clue words are all old favorites, yet the jumbles all came up as new. All the clue words came to me right away though. The answer letter layout was another fine nine letter jumble. Nicely cryptic. The quotation marks and the hyphen were the big clues for me. That, and the avoidance of the word CORE in the cartoon and clue/question.
