Answer: INGEST A MOMENT

(Ooh!  This was a sneaky, stinky pun!  Especially, if you spelled SEIZE wrong, like I did.  Can we – somehow –  vote to get rid of that STUPID “I Before E Except After C” rule???  I mean, I’ve always been aware of the exceptions, but why did some numb-nuts come up with this as a grammatical “rule” in the first place???

None of today’s clue words are new.  However, three of the jumbles are coming up as new.  We’ve definitely seen “mafyo” sometime in the past.  I got them all immediately this morning.  The answer letter layout was a very impressive thirteen letter jumble.  I thought it hid the final answer brilliantly.  Because I’m a rocket scientist – NOT – I saw that the middle word was A.  Then, I did figure that the third word was MOMENT.  But, because of SIEZE – groan – I was left with SINGIT.  Now, in Tagalog SINGIT means CROTCH, but In English you can only come up with SITING, and SITING A MOMENT did not seem to make much sense, considering the context of the clue/question.  So, I took a second look at the clue words, and saw that I had seized an erroneous answer.  By the by, I think that INGEST is a beautiful pun for IN JUST.  Kudos to whoever – Hoyt? – came up with it.  Sometimes these puns are suggested by the readers.

Very nice wedding reception cartoon.  Great cake and cake cutter.  The bride and groom look radiant!  They appear to be “Latinx”, so congrats on the diversity, Jeff!  I’d say this was a fairly tough solve, especially for a Wednesday.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Yes definitely a tough one, and a very good pun, very well set up, though I did get it with extra time. Yes, “A” in the middle was A gimme. I wasted several minutes convincing myself that there was no verb *ending* in -ING. Even though the clue doesn’t set up an -ING verb very well, I still bit on the -ING trap. After giving up on that, I needed a couple more minutes to find MOMENT. I think MOMENT’s the only reasonable gateway to the solution here, and it’s not an obvious word in this answer. I had SEIZE spelled correctly (if online solvers misspell a regular word, the game makes that clear by not dropping the circled letters down from that word to the final answer area), so I got INGEST fairly soon after finding MOMENT.

The wedding theme is a red herring, and there’s another rabbit hole with the cartoon figure talking about her card being full (??). Along with the -ING trap, that makes at least three potentially misleading elements to this puzzle, *and* an unintuitive, uncommon pun word. No wonder it’s a struggle. Well done guys.

I wasn’t aware until my late thirties of the custom among some families of the wedding couple smearing wedding cake in each others faces. I didn’t get it then and still don’t get it.

What would be the point besides spoiling good cake ?

Keeping my fingers crossed that the May one will be able proceed, Wimpy! I wouldn’t imagine August being a problem, but you never know. Maybe they all get pushed back? “Piece of cake”? How apropos, you old Po Po! LOL! — YUR

It’s definitely silly, lwc! Can’t say where or when it started, but it sure is imitated a lot. I think some might do it as a playful way to lighten things up. To end things on a little higher note. It is also on my list of pet peeves, but not really that high on the list. (As I get older, the list gets longer!) — YUR

Notice above I was confused about the woman standing to the side of the couple ready to eat cake, saying her card was full. I figured it out, though it took awhile. She is part of the clue and not a red herring. What I didn’t understand was that she’s holding a camera (sorry, Jeff), and that her full card was a camera memory card, so she was asking the couple to wait a bit while she changed cards so she could get the shot. I thought she was talking about some other unknown kind of card in connection with the wedding and couldn’t figure out the connection.

We took a vote, David, and decided we would let you figure this out on your own. You did not let us down! — YUR 😉

Unc,I followed your process..but, I had seized spelled correctly. Having A MOMENT down, it took me a minute to get INGEST….oohhhhhh, my second groan in maybe a week!

I figured out that the photographers memory card was full, and would have probably been all over looking for an ING word, but saw MOMENT first. That saved me.

My little picture thingy changed. I like it’s purple! LL
