A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.”   —   Henry D. Thoreau

(Many of us are richer than we think.  I like how they tried to make the author a little harder to get.  Certain names just kind of scream out at you, and then there is very little challenge in solving the cryptoquote.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

  1. Your point is well taken, Unc Rave, about certain names that “scream out at you.” A certain Transcendentalist author from Concord leaps to mind. Maybe the secretive setters of the Cryptoquote are reading your blog, as today they apparently tried to veil this author’s name by initializing the obvious DAVID. He is so darn quotable, we can count on many, many more passages from him!

  2. I think it stands to reason that this blog gets visited, from time to time, by those “secretive setters”. (Everybody Googles themselves, right?) Kind of like Yelp, they want to know what their buzz is. Maybe, as a result of this blog, some people have written to their newspaper asking them to carry the Cryptoquote. So, yeah. Maybe they have picked up on my suggestion to mix it up a little bit with the more notable quoters. When they go standard, SO many of the authors really stand out. Those author names become like a key, and that takes away some of the challenge/fun!

    Thanks, hal. — YUR
