All of us learn to write in the second grade.  Most of us go on to greater things.”   —   Bobby Knight

(Bobby is the antithesis of the “participation trophy” philosophy.  But, he’s also kind of like an extreme version of the proverb honesty is the best policy.  It’s just not always so.  Sometimes you have to employ a little diplomacy, and sugarcoat things.  How many of us can truly afford to burn all of our bridges?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The only way we can get by in this world is through the help we receive from others.”   —   Any Poehler

(Very few – if any – can go it alone.  We all need to help each other out in this life.  I’ve always been a big Amy Poehler fan.  It’s great that we’re seeing her as of late.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The body is an instrument, the mind its function, the witness and reward of its operation.”   —   George Santayana

(A very colorful writer!  We should bear his words in mind, as we sit on the couch, with our tablets/cell phones on our bellies, watching YouTube videos of cats.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I find television very educating.  Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.”   —   Groucho Marx

(Just a little irony, from one of the kings of the Golden Age of Television!  I highly doubt that he found anything dull about the paychecks TV provided him!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time.”   —   Nietzsche

(I used to try to put that positive spin on people with Alzheimer’s.  But, with them there’s a lot of frustration and fear.  And, nobody enjoys those things.  Be well and do good, friends!

Hey, Happy Earth Day!  Do something good today, like plant a tree or bush, or go around picking up litter, and put it in its place.  Hopefully, something like a recycling bin.  It’s a BIG day for birthdays today!  Too many to mention them all, so I’ll give you my personal favorites.  The Incomparable Jack Nicholson is 81, the Marvelous Mel Carter is 79, the Genius John Waters is 72, Rock singers Peter Frampton and Paul Carrack are 68 and 67, respectively.  And, actor Joe Bottoms is 64.  A slew of others under 60, so Happy Birthday to all the rest.  Or, LAL HET SERT as Jeff Knurek would say!)   —   YUR

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.”   —   Native American Proverb

(Truer words were never spoken!  But, I fear some Christians resent this truism, as it sort of contradicts a well known Bible passage.  Let’s put our prejudices away, and really hear the actuality.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.”   —   Gandhi

(Where are the Gandhis of today???  They are probably still out there.  They’ve just been shouted down by some ANTIFA thugs!  Earth Day is this Sunday, folks!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
