Cryptoquote Spoiler – 07/17/18

We promise according to our hopes and perform according to our fears.”   —   Francois de La Rochefoucauld

(Sadly, this is true.  The world could be such a marvelous place, if we could all overcome our fears.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

No pain GAIN is so certain as that which proceeds from the economical use of what you already have.”   —   Latin Proverb

(It’s all Greek to me, folks!  Or, at least Latin, in this case.  Can one of my smarter readers put this in to plain language for me?  I’d much appreciate it.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A sharp tongue is the only edged tool that grows keener with constant use.”   —   Washington Irving

(I guess it’s a use or lose it kind of thing.  I used to have really great stinging arguments with a super conservative co-worker, back in the day.  A sharp tongue though can get you in trouble, and hurt a lot of feelings.   Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire, but you should always strive for civility.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Love grows more tremendously full, swift, poignant, as the years multiply.”   —   Jane ZANE Grey

(Such a tragic ending for such a well-educated young noblewoman.  She reluctantly accepted the crown, and ended up being called a traitor, and later executed.  At least this is something Meghan Markle shouldn’t have to worry about!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Never mind!  It’s Zane Grey, and not Jane Grey,!  It kind of makes sense when you consider the “as the years multiply” part.  See some of the comments for more.)   —   YUR

Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.”   —   Guillaume Apollinaire

(This man died 100 years ago, but I think he might fit in pretty well in today’s world.  Most of us tend to overthink a lot of things, especially the things like happiness.  Just get your attitude in order, and try to live in the moment.  If my high school French serves me well, Guillaume is the French version of William.  It might be the only reason I was able to come up with the author’s name.  This is Gui’s first quote to appear in the Cryptoquote, since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  Welcome to the Cryptoquote Club, sir!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.”   —   Sydney Harris

(In case anyone was wondering, this quote is from the – now dead – author, and not the lovely – currently living – actress.  Just as with any machine, you can’t expect to work non-stop without breaking down.  If you don’t take the occasional break you might seize up, just like an engine that has burned off all its oil.  I like this next Harris quote:  “Terrorism is what we call the violence of the weak, and we condemn it; war is what we call the violence of the strong, and we glorify it.”  And, to take this thought a little further:  And if “They” are winning the war . . . just accuse them of atrocities.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

If you want to make good use of your time, you’ve got to know what’s important and then give it all you’ve got.”   —   Lee Iacocca

(I would’ve thought that we’d had a Lee Iacocca quote before, but I couldn’t find a Tag for him!  Hmm.  Well, Lee.  Welcome to the Cryptoquote Club!  Lee is still hanging in there at 93.  He’ll be 94 in October.  I’m betting he’s had a pretty good life.  Good for him!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
