Treat a work of art like a prince.  Let it speak to you first.”   —   Arthur Schopenhauer

(A great philosopher!  Largely unappreciated during his lifetime, but he influenced many others.  I like his views on free will.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Reasoning with a child is fine, if you can reach the child’s reason without destroying your own.”   —   John Mason Brown

(Nothing easy about today’s quote!  It took a little work to get this one.  I picked up on YOU and YOUR before WITH and WITHOUT.  The Y had to be the A, because the P looked really good to be the E.  This is our first quote from J.M. Brown.  So, we welcome John Mason Brown to the Cryptoquote Club today.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A great work is made out of a combination of obedience and liberty.”   —   Nadia Boulanger

Some people like to make of life a garden, and to walk only in its paths.”   —   Japanese Proverb

(This can be taken a couple different ways.  The positive being that gardens are places of beauty and sustenance, and that here is great merit in creating such.  But, one could also look at this negatively.  All gardens have some kind of boundaries, so limiting yourself to its paths makes you very provincial.  Your growth is very limited, if you don’t venture out into the rest of the world.  Hey!  Let’s make the world one big garden!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.”   —   Emma Goldman

(This woman definitely knew how to push the envelope!  Probably widely hated during her time, but that’s just because she was ahead of her time.  And, from her perspective, everyone else was just behind the times.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

It is possible for a student to win twelve letters at a university without learning how to write one.”   —   Robert Hutchins

(A lot of very smart people just can’t seem to write.  While I am proof that you don’t need to be a genius to express a cogent thought!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Man’s fear of ideas is probably the greatest dike holding back human knowledge and happiness.”   —   Morris Leopold Ernst

(Humans are comfort creatures.  They generally like what they think they already know.  And are afraid of the boat rockers.  They even call them derogatory names!  They would rather accept what they’re told without questioning.  But, you guys know yer uncle.  I say:  Question everything!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
