“Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” — Gail Devers
(Our first quote from Ms. Yolanda Gail Devers! But, don’t call her Yoli! She’ll probably say: “That’s Not My Name”. Gail was at risk for losing her feet to amputation, when radiation treatments for Grave’s disease caused them to blister and swell, to the point where she had to crawl or be carried! Fortunately, that wasn’t necessary, as the radiation treatments ended, and the swelling and blistering subsided. And, she went on to win multiple gold and silver medals throughout her illustrious career. We welcome her to the Cryptoquote Club today. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” — Thomas Huxley
(Easier said than done. The second part that is. I don’t think you can ever really know everything about anything. But, I guess it’s all in the trying. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“There is no witness so terrible, no accuser so powerful as the conscience which dwells within us.” — Sophocles
(Unless you’re a sociopath! Then you think that everyone else is an idiot, and you’ll never be caught. And, you have no remorse for what you did. Does that then mean that sociopaths have absolutely no conscience??? Interesting. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“The past the present and the future are really one: they are today.” — Harriet Beecher Stowe
(The woman wrote the book that helped lead to the end of slavery in the United States. Just don’t think that the North was lily white leading up to the Civil War, because they weren’t! There was a sick kind of enabling game going on to appease the Southern states, because for a long time the Southern states were the money makers. Industrialization helped the North to develop somewhat of a backbone. Most don’t realize there were slaves in the “free state” of New Jersey right up to the Civil War.
But, when the South seceded the North/Union was more concerned about competition for the western territories, than actually “freeing the slaves”. The Monroe Doctrine didn’t anticipate a non-European entity intervening in the Americas! Expansionism was the dirty, un-publisized, reason for “preserving the Union”. The freeing of the enslaved people was simply the auspicious – and moral – byproduct of the war. History books are written by the victors. They get to frame the story into good guys versus villains. When you’re dealing with a death toll that approached 750,000 you really need find a way to put some lipstick on the pig! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“Before anything else preparation is the key to success.” — Alexander Graham Bell
(We’ve had a couple of easy ones the last few days. I wonder if they’re setting us up for a doozie? This appears to be only the second A.G. Bell quote since I’ve been posting the spoilers. So, at least it’s not a tired re-run. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“If you take care of the small things the big things take care of themselves.” — Emily Dickinson
(I’ve long heard this quote, but I don’t think I realized that it was attributed to Emily Dickinson. I guess that’s what I get for a lifetime of faking it. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.” — Mark Twain
(And, how hard could that be to come by? We are the more slovenly of the sexes. Aren’t we, guys? Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
