Children are innocent and love justice, while most of us are wicked and naturally prefer mercy.”   —   G.K. Chesterton

(Another form of “It’s easier to get forgiveness than permission”, which some people seem to live by.  Then, you can mark me down as a child, because I still value justice over asking for mercy.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

There must be at least half a billion rats in the United States; of course, I am speaking only from memory.”   —   Bill Nye

(A fairly amusing quote.  And a fairly simple solve though.  The Thought for Today was:  “The willing contemplation of vice is vice.”  Ironic, considering the episode of “Law and Order SVU” I’m watching as I type this.  Chilling!  On a much lighter note it is Rosey Grier’s 87th birthday today!  Happy birthday, Rosey!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Some people with great virtues are disagreeable, while others with great vices are delightful.”   —   La Rochefoucauld

(I kind of feel like I cheated with this one.  I was pretty sure I identified the E right off the bat, but the A gave me second thoughts, because EEA is not all that common.  So, I looked at the author, and saw it was most likely ED, DE . . . or LA, and I quickly recognized the famous Frenchman.  That gave me a lot to work with.  I don’t know why I sometimes have trouble spotting PEOPLE.  Maybe the X’s threw me off today?  The quote is just so true!  Give me a man, or woman, with vices any day!  Virtuous people can be such a bore.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.”   —   Edmund Burke

(Yeah.  There’s no point to it!  Some people don’t seem to realize what a gift the ability to read is.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Happiness is having a large, loving, caring close-knit family – in another city.”   —   George Burns

(Very funny quote.  Family CAN be a chore, but I wish mine wasn’t quite so spread out.  I miss them.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Heroes need monsters to establish their heroic credentials.  You need something scary to overcome.”   —   Margaret Atwood

(Classic heroes, not sports heroes.  With the classic hero we often have to create the monster, by demonizing the other guy.  It’s not necessarily fair, or accurate, but that is what’s done.  I wonder how Margaret pronounces “hero”?  The slightly more exaggerated HE-RO, or the more subtle HERE-O.  I prefer the subtle, but I often hear the more exaggerated.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A good many car drivers don’t need seat belts as much as they need straight jackets.”   —   Source Unknown

(Don’t get me started on bad drivers!  I could go on for days.  Although, pretty much all of us, at some point in time, have been guilty of some kind of lapse of judgment behind the wheel.  But, when it’s the other guy . . . they’re an idiot!  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
