Leonard Nimoy 'cooked up' Star Trek's death of Spock for leverage, says William Shatner

I have been, and always shall be, your friend.  Live long and prosper.”   —   “Star Trek II:  The Wrath of Khan”

(Said to Captain Kirk in the very dramatic death scene of Spock, as he’s dying from a fatal dose of radiation.  He has saved the Enterprise, and the lives of all on board, because:  “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”.  But, of course, the writers found a way of bringing Spock back to life in “Star Trek III:  The Search for Spock”.  How?  I don’t remember.  It was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.  No, wait!  That’s from that other space oddity . . . er, odyssey.  Well, these movie quotes have been fun.  No idea how long they’re going to go on, but I guess we’ll see.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Devil's Pool, Victoria Falls, Zambia – Reflections of a Misfit

Did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?”   —   “Batman”

(This line was spoken by Jack Nicholson, as the Joker, in the first – serious – 1989 “Batman” movie, starring Michael Keaton.  There was the campy 1966 movie, based on the popular television show, and some serial shorts back in the 1940s, but this was the first of the serious feature films of The Caped Crusader.  I saw all the ones up to the George Clooney one, but after that I lost all interest in the newer ones.  I think I saw the first Christian Bale – Dark Knight – one, and most of one of the other ones, but that was enough.  All of these super hero movies are just a bit too much.  I know they’re all big box office draws, but I’m sure that’s for a younger crowd than I belong to.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Did anyone else’s newspaper print a microscopic Celebrity Cipher today?  I was able to solve it, but man . . . I have trouble reading them in the normal sized fonts these days!  I hope it was just a one-off.   —   YUR

Princess Bride' Line Connects Fan and Inigo Montoya Actor

My name is Inigo Montoya.  You killed my Father.  Prepare to die.”   —   “The Princess Bride”

(Another very funny movie!  Directed by Rob Reiner.  It starred a very young Mandy Patinkin, and a bunch of other great actors.  I think Inigo says this line five or six times!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

See the Stars of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Then & Now - E! Online

Life moves pretty fast.  If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”   —   “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

(Good advice . . . from a hedonistic teenage slacker!  That being said, I’m a BIG fan of the movie!  It’s exceedingly funny, and a star-turning role for Matthew Broderick.  He’s had many other notable roles, but he will be forever remembered as Ferris Bueller.  Like I said to hal, I think we might be in for a series of movie quotes.  Change is good.  And that Mia Sara is a pretty little thing!  “Oh, yeah!”  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

What animals were the Ewoks modeled after? - Quora

You’ve failed, your highness.  I am a Jedi, like my father before me.”   —  “Return of the Jedi”

(WOW!  What an inspirational quote!  Truly life altering . . . NOT!  LOL!  I guess every now and then they throw in a totally irrelevant zinger, just to keep us on our toes.  I think that was the third of the original “Star Wars” movies, before they got cute, and came up with all the pre-quels and back story nonsense.  I gave up after the Jar Jar Binks fiasco, but I hear from some die-hards that the other films were much better.  My tolerance for “fantasy” has decreased over the years.  And I was never a fan of “Use the force, Luke!” to begin with.  It’s just a very thinly veiled: Have faith.  Don’t trust your eyes, or your own skills, just “use the force”.  Bleah!  Mystic nonsense!  The best thing about that movie was the Ewoks.  They were like bad-ass Teddy Bears!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS. Apologies for the erroneous Morgan Freeman birthday greetings the other day!  I thought that the Celebrity Cipher always used quotes from a celeb celebrating a birthday.  My bad.   —   YUR

Kanji Writing Practice Notebook "Dream" Kanji Asian Character: Write Japanese Kanji Characters 8.5 x 11 Workbook With Writing Paper, 200 Pages (Kanji Writing Practice Notebooks): ArtBookStudio, Kanji Notebook Series by: 9781792162770: Amazon.com: Books

It’s better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times.”   —   Asian Proverb

(Not sure if I completely agree with this.  If it’s something pleasant, sure.  But if it’s the footage of the police beating/killing of Tyre Nichols, or the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi, I think I can do without watching.  Sudden graphic violence turns off people like me.  I remember when I first watched “Goodfellas”, I had to turn away when Joe Pesci was stabbing that guy in the trunk of the car.  I found it horrendous, and it left a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the film.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the movie now.  It’s a modern classic.  But I was very happy that it lost out to “Dances With Wolves” that year.  “Asian proverb” is a pretty vague attribution, don’t you think?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Religion was invented when the first con man met the first fool." - Mark Twain | Atheist quotes, Mark twain quotes, Atheist humor

Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience:  this is the ideal life.”   —   Mark Twain

(“Sleepy conscience” kind of threw me.  I had to look it up.  All it means is to chill.  Take it easy.  And to live and let live.  You don’t need to confront someone because they have a different idea, or opinion, of things.  You’ve heard people say never discuss religion or politics, right?  Those two things can very often start an argument, even amongst great friends.  Jonathan Swift once famously said: “You cannot reason someone out of something he or she was not reasoned into”.  Like they say:  Ya gots ta go along ta git along!  We’re just better off keeping somethings to ourselves.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Robert Frost | Poetry Foundation

You can’t get too much winter in the winter.”   —   Robert Frost

(I think that the folks in the Buffalo/Hamburg area of Western New York would beg to differ!  Five to six feet of snow, in one storm, is a bit of an overkill.  While down around the NYC area we really haven’t received any measurable snow.  Very strange for January the 26th!  I wonder if Robert Frost and Andy Rooney were related?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you’ve been taking.”   —   Earl Wilson

Bob Marley Reggae Digital Art by Valentina Workman - Fine Art America

One good thing about music — when it hits you, you feel no pain.”   —   Bob Marley

(The man who brought Reggae music into the mainstream.  He paved the way for many other Jamaican musicians.  Such a shame that he was taken from this world, at the tender age of 36, due to cancer.  A very aggressive form of melanoma.  Only the good die young!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
