Sorry, people! I don’t seem to have it, today. I was playing around with it starting with TO HAVE, and with the author being JAMES HOWELL(?), but the rest is not falling into place. No single letter words, no THE, no double letter words, and nothing ending in ING – that I can see. Two cups of coffee, and still nothing! Anybody have any good hints to get me started??? — YUR
Okay. Here it is, friends. Thanks to a few anonymous commentators, and Grandpa!
“To have gold brings fear; to have none brings grief.” — James Howell
I kinda gave up on it. Just not with it, today, I guess. Sorry to let you guys down. — YUR
Could the 5th word be dear and the 8th word be none ? I can’t make sense of it.
I too had the 8th word as NONE, with the 5th being either READ or DEAR, but I still can’t make sense of it either!

to have gold brings fear, to have none brings grief
to have gold brings
fear to have none brings grief
James Howell
I think it’s To have gold brings fear, to have none brings grief.
OK, you’re almost there. S=G, U=B, T=F. You should be able to finish now.
I wish Grandpa had beaten the Anonymous comments! I did have _RIN_S for the 4th word, but I didn’t change READ to DEAR, which *could have* lead me to FEAR. I think I convinced myself that the 3rd word was an adjective, either BOLD or COLD. Of course GOLD can be an adjective too, but I just wasn’t seeing it.
I guess I’m just out of it, this morning.
Thanks, to all who wrote in with help!

The “g” got me!! I kept trying “t!”
This being Olympic season, and never having heard of James Howell, I came up with “To take gold brings fear, to take none brings grief.
Cute, Bob! But, of course, it doesn’t *really* work, because you already – legitimately – used the “T” for the “TO”s. But, it’s still nice to see you working in an Olympic theme. Looks like the Jumble guys are all in on that!
