Visual Description: It’s all over, at the ophthalmologist.
NIHYS = SHINY, AWERF = WAFER, CLUNKO = UNLOCK, UNBEOC = BOUNCE — Giving us: INYAFENLKBOE
Clue/Question: Her visit to the eye doctor was over in the . . .
Answer: BLINK OF AN EYE
(Not bad! This very popular idiom should have made this a pretty obvious solve. I really didn’t even have to look at the answer letters to get it. But, the answer letter layout was fantastic! Very nicely jumbled, Mr. Hoyt! The clue words were all old standbys, but they too were very nicely jumbled. I hesitated a few seconds with “unlock”, and, as it turns out, we have had the jumble CLUNKO before. This cartoon reminds me that I need to set up an eye appointment. Too often I’m taking my glasses off to read things in the paper, including the Jumble! And, with the internet, I’m constantly having to go to View – Zoom – Zoom In, in order to get the font to a readable size. But, what irks me even more than the small type size is the color – if you can call pale gray a color – that they seem to be using more and more of, all the time. I’ve never been an absolutist, so I don’t expect a pure, stark black, but a nice deep, rich, charcoal gray is much easier on the eyes, than so much of what we’re getting these days. It’s why I give you guys a lot of bold fonts and dark colors. I’m doing unto others . . . Tiny and faint print is like saying: Hey old guys, screw you! Very nice, indeed. And, after all we’ve done for you! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
PS. And, speaking of poor vision, I wish more of us would take off the blinders and really see what is going on in this world! — YUR

Maybe it’s the crossworder in me, as this would be a mortal sin in that genre, but I was surprised to have the word EYE in both the clue and the answer. I think “optician” would have made for a better presentation.
That really was a blatantly obvious answer. I personally struggled to get BOUNCE, having to work backwards from the answer.

Can’t argue with you about the EYE thing, Art. Even though an optician isn’t technically a doctor, I agree. I think it would have been a better alternative to “eye doctor”.

Greetings! I got “shiny” immediately and thought I was well on my way…NOT! I got stuck and then looked at the puzzle. Got the answer right away, figured out the letters I needed, and had to back into the rest of the words, with unlock being the hardest—knew the letters I needed and it still took a bit to find the word!.
Back from a 5 day trip & did all 5 jumbles today! I got the puzzle today before I got the words, I hate it when I do that, it actually makes it harder for me! Thanks for all you do, YUR!
Linda,
Some days are just like that. Today will be much better for you. I can feel it.
Betsy,
Hope you enjoyed the diversion. I *try* to avert my eyes from the cartoon while solving the clue words. Some days it can be tough though!
Glad both of you are back.

Hi I thought I was the only one that practiced that sillyness of diverting my eyes from the puzzle unless the words are done. Hilarious, when you think you are unique, you really are not!
