Visual Description: Somber remembrance.
XBREO = BOXER, PYMET = EMPTY, CLAPAA = ALPACA, COSTEK = SOCKET — Giving us: EREPYPACST
Clue/Question: We can never truly compensate those who fought for our country, but we can – – –
Answer: PAY RESPECT
(Beautiful sentiments. I was quite surprised to see that “boxer” was NOT in the ralis95 clue word database! Boxcar and boxing are , but not “boxer”. Ralis95 has a little updating to do! The clue word “empty” spells out in alphabetical order, and we’ve seen “costek” before. The answer letter layout was a delightful jumble. Nothing obvious there. The cartoon was very appropriately solemn. An earnest portrayal of Arlington National Cemetery. Note the Lincoln and Washington Memorials in the distance. Be well, dear friends. Our young soldier is doing good.) — YUR
Thanks, GP! Reminds me of the end of “Saving Private Ryan”, when he asked his wife if he’d been a good man, and had led a good life. I cried like a baby.

Is there any way that I can see this “ralis95” list that I keep reading about??
I kind of doubt it, Bob. The list has been compiled, and maintained, over the course of many, many years, by one of this blog’s longest followers, ralis95. As far as I know, he only sends out a very few, read only, files. One file goes to David L. Hoyt, of The Jumble fame, and one goes to yours truly. We’re honor bound to not share it with the general public. The latest file in my possession contains 3,155 clue words, but I’d bet he’s been able to add 20 – 30 more since then. Sorry, bud.

ALPACA gave me pause. Hadn’t seen that one before and to me is a bit unusual as a clue word.
I’m guessing then you were not raised in, nor have you visited, western South America, Damid! The closest I’ve been to there was when we had a day trip to Caracas Venezuela, from a cruise we went on, a long time ago. I’ve always loved all sorts of animals, and I enjoy crossword puzzles, where you occasionally see the word “alpaca”. There are also a couple of 7-letter animals that have been – somewhat – in the news lately, that you might not be familiar with. One of them is the vaquita, an endangered small dolphin, and the other is the pangolin, also endangered, which looks a lot like an armadillo. If Hoyt could use 7-letter clue words, he might go with one of those. But he can’t, so he won’t.

Nope. Never been in Sud America. But I was on vacation a year or two ago and while driving, I saw some white animals in a pasture near the road. I immediately thought ‘Alpacas!’ 🙂
Coulda been, Damid! Folks do raise them for their hair/fur, that can be made into a kind of wool. — YUR 🙂
We actually have 2 llama/alpaca farms right down the road from us..it is such a treat to see their babies in the Spring- they are so small and adorable, they look like stuffed animals!
