MILBP  =  BLIMP,  PENIT  =  INEPT,  HOXTAR  =  THORAX,  LAPTEL  =  PALLET   —   Giving us:  BIMITTHOAET

Clue/Question:  He wanted to buy the classic drum set, but someone . . .

Answer:  BEAT HIM TO IT

(Okey dokey.  Some nice clue word jumbling.  I liked “thorax”.  Looks like “pallet” is going to be a new addition to the ralis95 clue word database.  Decent, but not great answer letter layout.  Starts with a B and ends with a T!  That email thing doesn’t apply just to individual words, ya know!  Nice group of mop-tops, Knurek.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

    YUR:

Interesting history about the word BLIMP, which everyone in the States associates with the Goodyear airships. The term actually goes back to WWI when the British began experimenting with lighter-than-air airships without internal frameworks (vs. Zeppelins that had massive metal structures). The initial non-rigid craft was designated the A-limp (for lacking stiffness) and the improved second version became the B-limp – shortened eventually to just blimp after they were successfully deployed.
