Clue/Question: The scientists studying Niagara Falls had lots of data to – – –
Answer: “POUR“ OVER
(Wow! This is a great homonym pun! The expressions “pore over” and “pore through” are pretty distinctive phrases. Many/most of us think of “pore” as an opening in the skin, and of course we all know “poor” and “pour”. Left to my own – feeble – devices, I probably would have written “pour over” . . . until somebody corrected me of course. I do NOT remember them stopping the Niagara Falls in 1969! I would have been 12, and it’s essentially in my backyard, being from Western NY. Surprisingly, the first time I went there was when I was on a college choral trip. It’s one of the great natural wonders of North America!
All four clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database. Three of the jumbles are coming up as new. The only one we’ve definitely seen before is “lappor”. Of course it is the only one that I struggled with. And, I like to think that I’m pretty good with trees. The answer letter layout was a straight eight letter. Decently cryptic too. The clue/question and the quotation marks were big hints for me.
Great cartoon of the scientists at the bottom of the falls. Just like with the Maid of the Mist boat ride you need to wear raincoats, or you’ll get soaking wet. I missed the draining of 1969, but hopefully I’ll be around for the next time they drain it. Great Jumble! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
