Answer: SLUGGED IT OUT
(All they can really do is kind of head-butt each other. Maybe the occasional tail whip. But definitely no punching! Slugs get kind of a bad rap, because they can – and often do – do damage to some of our plants. But they are one natures great decomposers, feeding on all sorts of dead plant and animal – worms and insects – matter. Plus, they are a source of food for numerous birds and reptiles. They are just land snails, without shells. I think some sci-fi guys pattern their aliens after slugs.
All four of today’s clue words have been used by David L. Hoyt before. Three of the jumbles appear to be new however. We have definitely seen “segut” in a previous Jumble. The answer letter layout was a terrific twelve letter jumble. Not obvious in the least. The long scientific name in the clue/question was the big clue, besides the cartoon.
Fun cartoon of the dueling slugs and a couple of low-lying spectators. It seems funny to think of these slow-moving creatures as fighting, but they can be territorial, especially between different species of slugs. Their battles must be fairly low-key though, or some slimy humans would try to profit off getting them to “fight”. Fun Friday Jumble. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Do slugs actually have “eyes” at the end of their antennae, or are they merely feelers ?
I believe they are merely feelers, lwc. But cartoonists take artistic license! — YUR
