(Kind of a classic Jumble, with a bit of a modern twist. We’ve seen a number of Jumble answers that intermittently switch “cents” for “sense”, and even “scents”, because homophones make for great Jumble puns. But the older brother in the cartoon brings the gag to our present state of distress. The younger generation does not understand the value of cash . . . and the most basic accounting of money. When you try to pay for something using cash, especially exact change or a little over, the clerks – generally teens – invariably can’t figure it out! They hem and they haw, and usually screw it up. It is really sad. And our younger generations rely completely on what their bank receipt and online balance say, without considering outstanding checks, or recurring automatic charges! Sure, checks are not used as frequently as in the past, but some places still insist on them, and you have to account for them, which is why everyone should be using their ledgers! But some just can’t be bothered. And then they’re surprised when their account is overdrawn. How are these people taking Calculus and Trigonometry when they can’t do basic Arithmetic? Ay yi yi! Don’t get me started!
As expected, all four clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database. Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, for me. But we’ve definitely seen “mtropp” in a previous Jumble. No pause today. The answer letter layout was an effective eleven letter jumble. The “AKE” of MAKE kind of stood out though. The other two words were better hidden. The quotation marks always help the solve.

The other day my husband gave a young cashier the right amount of change, 3 dimes. The girl told my husband he needs 15¢ more. He explained he had given her 3 dimes and that was 30¢. Oh, she said ,I always get the 5¢ mixed up because it’s larger than the 10¢. We couldn’t believe our ears ! So when she saw 3 dimes she thought they were nickels and therefore only 15¢. How did she get that job ? BTW, she never referred to the coins as nickels or dimes either ! Ay yi yi is right !

I’m in the “eliminate coins” camp Unc. Keep them for the collectors, but not for buying stuff 💩. Just round it off to the nearest dollar 💵 and go from there. Many of my statements (investments 💰, kids college bills, etc) all come to me rounded off. Folks barely use cold hard cash 💷 much anymore with debit cards 💳 now so why not? The coin 🪙 is nothing but an old relic now…

Very curious, Smitty. Most of the MAGA republicans that I know are against the plastic payments. They say it’s a way for the “Deep State” to seize all our wealth, and that we should NOT give up our cash. Not sure about all the Deep State claims, but I can envision the possibilities. I bet you don’t keep a ledger too!

I think the folks you are referring to represent such a small potion of the Conservatives, yet Liberals portray them as the majority. Crazy I tell ya! And nobody is going to jail over this. It’s all nonsense to try and make Trump decline the nomination (which he won’t).

Not exactly your strongest work, Smitty. I know a lot of true Conservatives, and whereas they may not be fans of Biden’s policies they do NOT buy into this . . . cult of personality . . . that is “The Donald”. Most of them voted for him in 2016 for the same reason people voted for Biden in 2020. In 2016 it was because they absolutely did NOT want Hillary, not because they thought he was going to be the best President. In 2020 it was because people wanted anybody but Trump, not because they were tremendous Biden fans. But to dismiss all of Trump’s crimes – and they ARE crimes – as political posturing is both disingenuous and delusional, my friend. — YUR
