Answer:  (____________) ***UNPARALLELED***

(Too cool for school???  I don’t know, folks.  I guess I’m going to need some of your help with this one.  You know me.  I’m a word nerd, NOT a math nerd.  Math nerds seem to rule the world these days.  If my daughter were here with me I’m sure she would come up with the answer.  Probably without even giving it a second thought.

All four clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database.  They weren’t difficult for me to get!  Three of those jumbles are coming up as new, but it seems that we have seen “cladpi” in at least one previous Jumble.  The answer letter layout was a terrific twelve letter jumble.  It got me though.  I was thinking that the final answer was going to end with NDULAR.  But I couldn’t do anything with the remaining AEEPLL.  Sometimes, when you go down a rabbit hole there’s no coming back!

Classic Jeff Knurek drawing of geometric figures on some kind of graphic plane.  It’s cool that they’re animated, but I have a hard time relating to them.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

*** Thanks to all who took the time to write in – and enlighten me – with the answer!   —   YUR

  1. WOW! Thanks, Wheeler! Was it automatic for you, or did you have to work at it a bit? — YUR

  2. Of the shapes illustrated above, the circle, pentagon, heptagon, triangle, and oval/ellipse are UNPARALLELED. So it looks like in order to have parallel sides, a shape needs an even number of sides. [We will need a mathematician among your followers, Unclerave, to explain why that is.] The circle and the oval/ellipse have one side, also an odd number. The American Heritage Dictionary says that a trapezium (British usage, “trapezoid” here in America) is a four-sided shape with no parallel sides. Every other source I checked says that a trapezoid always has two parallel sides.

  3. It wasn’t exactly automatic. I stared at the illustration for a while, but that didn’t help. When I wrote down the last six letters letters — PLDLRL — from the clue words beneath the open letter positions at the bottom of the Jumble, it just clicked. That’s a great feeling, as I’m sure you know.

  4. This one was a bugger! I was all around it…parallel, parallelogram…I did not make the cut! And, the UN was right there. 🙄

  5. I got all the words but could not solve the puzzle. However, I was able to get the answer from another site.

  6. Is all that Geometry, Wheeler? Or Greek??? I’m pretty sure a trapezoid has two sides that are parallel. Thanks for doing some digging! — YUR

  7. I’m glad YOU saw it, Wheeler, as it completely escaped me! Thanks for the comments. — YUR

  8. Uh . . . do you mean THAT other site??? LOL! Of course THEY have the answer, Gloria. They’re *connected*. — YUR

  9. I read somewhere that the term “spoiler alert” had become cliché, Gloria. So, I figured I better change with the times. — YUR

  10. Hi. Just thought I would tell you that I have been doing these jumble puzzles for I bet 15 or more years. I haven’t missed a day. I believe it helps me with my day and cognition. One interesting thing I found was if the 4 words were easy, I would always have trouble with the cartoon answer and vice versa. I also go to your site any time I have difficulty plus I enjoy your comments Also, how long have you been doing this?
    Thank you!

  11. Hi, Gwen!

So glad to hear that you’re a loyal reader! I don’t often have trouble with the final answer, but when I do . . . it is usually when the clue words are easy for me too. Just last month I celebrated my 15th anniversary of blogging with WordPress. Thanks for commenting! — YUR

  12. I don’t know what is happening here; As puzzling as the empirical 1954 jumble, I see in this blog page comments dating from as far back as April 15, 2023 entwined with the most recent ones (June 2024)!!! for the same YUR post!

Another WordPress quirk in the system? 🤔 Only WordPress knows, probably.

  13. I can’t comment on what you are seeing John. Not sure if WordPress is hiding earlier stuff, or not. If you Google any “Jumble Spoiler – 05/01/08”, or any date around that period, it should bring up the old post . . . AND its comments. But none of these WordPress “enhancements” would surprise me. On a happier note, it seems they have resolved the Notifications/Likes issues. It NOW works as it used to, and I am able to reciprocate with other bloggers. — YUR
