Cryptoquote Solved – 04/01/23

Rachel Carson Wrote Silent Spring (Partly) Because of the Author of Stuart Little | Smart News| Smithsonian Magazine

In every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth.”   —   Rachel Carson

(We all owe this brave marine biologist, and writer, a debt of gratitude for alerting the world to the perils of pesticides on the environment.  If the use of DDT had not been halted how many more species would we have lost?  Mankind always tends to get ahead of itself, and doesn’t give enough thought to the long term effects of their creations of comfort.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Solved – 04/01/23

Kleefeld on Comics: The Funny Pages, 1949

IGDTI  =  DIGIT,  NPOER  =  PRONE,  BFALFE  =  BAFFLE,  GTLIPH  =  PLIGHT   —   Giving us:  DIIPROFFEPLT

Clue/Question:  When their newspaper printed the Jumble upside-down on April 1, they – – –

Man Reading Newspaper Art - Fine Art America

Answer:  FLIPPED FOR IT

(Hey!  Donald Trump just admitted that he lost the 2020 election . . . fair and square!  APRIL FOOL!  I don’t think the man is capable of telling the truth.  And, what’s that they say about repeating a lie?  Oh, yeah.  “If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself.”  —  Joseph Goebbels.  He also said:  “A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.”  At least with impressionable folks it does.  Folks who exercise critical thought can’t be fooled though.  No one is above the law is one of the sustaining tenets of American democracy.  Without the Rule of Law we risk falling into anarchy.  So, let’s let the legal process play itself out.  There’s no need to blow a nut over this indictment.  America was great before he came along, and it’s been great since he was defeated, and it will still be great in the future . . . provided we get past all this divisiveness.

All four clue words are on the ralis95 clue word database.  Three of the jumbles are coming up as new, but we’ve definitely seen “gtliph” in a previous Jumble.  None of them tripped me up today.  The answer letter layout was a twisty twelve letter jumble, but the final answer came to me immediately.

Great cartoon of a middle-aged couple greeting the morning, in their kitchen.  Mom has her cup of coffee, and Dad is busy checking out the funny pages, while Fido looks on.  Today Mom does not look stern!  Maybe it’s because she is drinking from her I Jumble mug!  And, I’d be happier myself if I didn’t have to print out these puzzles from the online newspaper!  No Saturday home delivery is SO lame.  Fun Jumble.  Don’t be fooled today, folks!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
