(After it was revealed what the Dalai Lama recently did . . . I’m afraid that Dorothy Parker – who was probably just being satirical . . . again – was right! You wake up on the Monday after Easter, thinking that there still might be some hope for the world, and this is one of the first things that you read! I have no problem with kidding around, and I’m from a family that regularly kisses on the lips, but this goes way beyond an acceptable joke. I would still prefer to believe that his holiness is NOT a pedophile, but just an addled 87 year old person, who showed incredibly poor judgment in dealing with a child. This is so out of purpose. I first thought that it’d happened ages ago when Dorothy was still issuing her timeless zingers. Then I checked the news and was (only partially) shocked.
Don’t believe he’s into it. But it’s clear that he’s showing astonishing poor judgment for his position, something that may hurt his street cred for the important peacemaking role that’s expected from him, given the current state of the world. Really a Maharish-kind of a fuckup, your holiness.

I was kind of disappointed/surprised that this story didn’t get wider coverage. Nothing in my Apple News feed. Nothing on the MSN home page. Nothing on television. When my wife brought it up I thought: Oh boy, another one of the BS stories she got off of Facebook! But when you Google it there are plenty of articles. The incident happened in (late?) February, and then he recently issued an apology, while some of his people tried to pass it off as he is always teasing! I also don’t think he is some kind of pedophile. But I do think that he might be suffering from some form of dementia. 87 is really up there, so it could be part of a mental decline.
