Answer: HAVING A FIELD DAY
(Go get ’em, Tiger??? Hey, even if you’re currently the “worst team in baseball” you gotta support your team! As a kid, I rooted for a few teams – including the Tigers – before I settled on my hometown team’s parent team, the Baltimore Orioles. That was for the American League. In the National League I was a Cardinals fan – mainly due to Bob Gibson – before I settle into being a Pirates fan. I was only an on again/off again Mets fan, until I moved to NYC. I’ve been a diehard Mets fan for the last 39 years! Baseball is the best chess match sport going. I just love it.
Not only does ralis95 have to add one new clue word to his world famous clue word database, but Hoyt has given us TWO new clue words with today’s Jumble. Both “widget” and “swanky” are strangers to the vaunted list. I figured that “widget” might be new, but I was a little surprised by “swanky”. All of today’s jumbles appear to be new. The answer letter layout was a splendid fifteen letter jumble. It gave away nothing. For me, the present tense of the clue/question, and the length of the answer spaces made the HAVING A portion pretty definite. And, the EDIDYFAL quickly gave me FIELD DAY.
Great baseball cartoon, Jeff! I love the guy wearing the classic Mark – “the Bird” – Fidrych jersey! And, you gotta love the placement, and demeanor, of the players on the field. Especially, the pitcher, and the guy who hit the homer. The “agony” and the “ecstasy” of baseball! Great Sunday Jumble, in so many ways. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
