Clue/Question:  It sounded like the crows sensed trouble based on the – – –

Answer:  “CAWS“ FOR ALARM

(Marvelously, stinky pun!  Great homophone of cause.  But, do you really think these crows have any cause for alarm?  They’re probably 15-20 feet off the ground, on the telephone wires.  Seems pretty safe to me.

All of the clue words are familiar old favorites, although all of today’s jumbles appear to be new.  They were all great.  The answer letter layout was also a wonderful jumble.  Nicely cryptic.  Not obvious.

The cartoon is amusing.  At first, I thought the distant crows got some kind of shock from the wires.  It took me a little time to see the cat, lurking by the back bush.  Even if the cat were to climb the telephone poles, he/she wouldn’t venture out on the wires.  But, I always get a kick out of talking magpies.  Reminds me of Heckle and Jeckle.  I haven’t seen one of their cartoons in ages!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
