Visual Description: Chillin’ bats.
UGEGO = GOUGE, OSEHU = HOUSE, TENXET = EXTENT, NACDEN = CANNED — Giving us: GUHOTAN
Clue/Question: The bat bar was becoming a popular – – –
Answer: HANGOUT
(Excellent. Moderately difficult clue words today, though none of them were new. All the jumblings appear to be new, to me. The jumbling of “house” was great because it reads like a three syllable word. But for me, “canned” gave me the most difficulty. I have this little thing about clue words that end in “ed”. Very often they’re just a cheap past tense of some borderline verb, but I really don’t have a problem with “canned”. Looking for an “ed” ending is just kind of a last resort for me. The answer letter layout was masterful. Too bad the answer was pretty self-evident. The cartoon takes home the biggest prize today. You guys know how I try to avert my eyes from the cartoon until after I’ve unscrambled the clue words. Well, today it was very tough to do so. Upside down is always a big attention grabber! But, I was able to control myself. When you finally turn it right side up you can see all the detail Jeff put into it. There are seven bats, in total, all presumably hanging from stalactites. The male bat, in the lower left, has glasses on, and appears to be enjoying a bag of blood, while chatting up a pretty little female bat. Next to them is another couple, sitting at a chopped off stalactite. The guy has what looks to be a pompadour hairdo, a cheesy moustache and a bow-tie! The three in the background are a little fainter, but the they almost look like they’re dancing. It’s definitely one of the most creative cartoons Jeff has given us. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
