Answer:  FATHER FIGURING

(Believe it, or not, I did NOT go directly to FATHER, despite the fairly obviousness of the subject.  I was looking at NATURE and NATURING, and even NUTURING – thinking NURTURING – even though there was only one U.  Finally, the Fs kind of kicked in, but I think I actually got FIGURING before FATHER.  Weird.

We actually have a new clue word today, in “gritty”.  I hope ralis95 can break away from his Father’s Day activities, to read this, and then update his world famous clue word database.  And, all of the jumbles came up as new today.  Kind of a rarity for a Sunday.  Once again, I spelt “gravel” incorrectly, but fortunately the last two letters of the clue word were irrelevant.  Somebody needs to explain it to me.  Is there a rule for words that end in either EL, or LE?  Sort of like the I before E, except after C rule . . . that doesn’t always seem to hold true anyway?  Does it have to do with the V, or is there more to it?  I think, from what I wrote above, that the answer letter layout speaks for itself.  It wasn’t obvious to this Simple Simon!  That cartoon does look very familiar.  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.  Don’t forget your dads!)   —   YUR
