Justice Thurgood Marshall – Thurgood Marshall College Fund

In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute.”   —   Thurgood Marshall

(And, therein lies the problem with too many people, to this day.  Through bias and ignorance, they don’t recognize the humanity in those who don’t look . . . just like them.  They see others as somehow inferior.  This is both sad and dangerous, for all of us.  For years I thought that we – as a nation – were making pretty good progress in race relations, but there was always that undercurrent of hatred mixed with fear.  It started coming back to the surface with the election of Barack Obama, from those whose bias/hatred didn’t like seeing a Black man sitting in the White House.  Things got much much worse with the election of a man whose primary campaign tactic, and now “leadership” strategy, was/is in appealing to the small-minded and uncharitable, by raising irrational doubts and fears.  We need to ignore and replace this man, and remember the words of one of our Founding Fathers, John Dickinson:  “Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all!  By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall.”

This appears to be the very first quote from our country’s very first African-American Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall.  It’s about time, don’t you think?  Welcome to the Cryptoquote Club, sir.  Be well and do good, friends.  And, reject racial bigotry.)   —   YUR
