Thomas Paine – Lostpine

If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.”   —   Thomas Paine

(Magnanimous thought, albeit extremely naive.  Every generation has their troubles.  As long as there are Haves, and Have Nots, there will always be strife, both at home and abroad.  It’s the main way the Haves get more and more.  And . . . I do believe we’ve had this quote before!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

“If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.” — Thomas Paine

(Maybe . . . if Thomas had been Swiss, or something. It seems that our country has largely forgotten the wisdom of Thomas Paine. And, that is truly a shame. I guess in order to stay “on top” you have to be: ready, ALWAYS willing, and able to kick the crap out of any perceived threat . . . actual, or otherwise. Our entire economy is predicated upon it. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

BBC - Norfolk - Thomas Paine's Thetford legacy

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.”   —   Thomas Paine

(Well . . . at least he didn’t say White men!  Sorry, ladies.  Clearly, T.P. was a bit of a male chauvinist, as were most men of the 18th Century.  Too many people use the word “misogyny” incorrectly today.  A misogynist despises women, while male chauvinists simply think that they are “superior” to women.  You can dislike both, if you will, but please don’t confuse the two.  But, regardless.  I think we should all march out there, and tear down all statues of Thomas Paine!  The cad!  Let’s all show how righteous and ethically superior we are to our forefathers.  Tolerance and understanding?  We don’t need no stinking tolerance and understanding!  😉

Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.”   —   Thomas Paine

The world is my country, all mankind my brethren and to do good is my religion.”   —   Thomas Paine

(Jimmy Carter and his brother Billy???  Actually, a lot of that was media hype, but they did appear to be polar opposites.  I was tempted to use some of the Bushs, but it’s tough actually calling Barbara sublime.  Maybe, more of a subjugator.  Tough cookie, that Babs.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Today, Paine might be assailed as a male chauvinist, but fortunately most of us can keep the sensibilities of the times in perspective.  Today, we celebrate our nation’s birthday.  Tomorrow, we work to make our nation better.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Makes a certain amount of sense.  But, it also sounds like a rationalization for launching a “preemptive war”.  Of course, some preemptive wars – not to be confused with preventive wars – are truly necessary.  Just not as often as our leaders would like us to believe.)   — YUR

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.”   — Thomas Paine

(And, there are many, many ways to show that support.  Blindly accepting the actions of your government – even one you voted in – being the least of them.)   — YUR
