Visual Description: The debate over dirt.
GARTEH = GATHER, DOYITD = ODDITY, SUWEIN = UNWISE, SEEORT = STEREO, TWICSH = SWITCH, LIRTEP = TRIPLE — Giving us: GHDDUNSOIHRLE
Clue/Question: The customer demanded a discount on the potting soil, but the nursery owner . . .
Answer: HELD HIS GROUND
(Very good pun, nicely set up by the nursery owner actually holding a bag of his top soil! I guess we could also say he’s holding terra firma! I thought that all of the clue words were jumbled very, very well this day. The ones that gave me the most trouble were “stereo” and “triple”. I didn’t need to write them out, or anything, but they took a little more thought than the other clue words. None of the clue words were new though. The answer letter layout was beautifully cryptic. If the cartoon’s drawing and dialog, and the clue/question, didn’t set this up so nicely I don’t think I could have gotten it with this answer letter layout. Nice job, Mr. Hoyt! A very satisfying Sunday Jumble! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
