Justice Sonia Sotomayor A Humanitarian, Liberal Voice On Court - News Taco

Until we get equality in education, we won’t have an equal society.”   —   Sonia Sotomayor

(I’ve always been glad that she’s a progressive jurist, but I really don’t see what she’s talking about here.  I know there was a time when girls were relegated to Home Economics, Literature and the Arts, and boys were expected to go into Engineering and the Sciences and such, but aren’t those days long gone?  I’m sure that individual teachers may have their biases, but that’s just human nature, and it goes both ways.  What is the inequality that she is speaking of?  Ladies???  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

At UMN, Sotomayor shares her inspirations, irritations

If the system is broken, my inclination is to fix it rather than to fight it.”   —   Sonia Sotomayor

(But the only way to fix any broken, or corrupt, system is to fight the powers who have allowed it to break, and who are profiting from it staying broken.  We’re not talking about a toaster, or some other simple mechanical device here.  Those with power are NOT about to surrender that power without somebody forcing them to do so.  That is simply human nature, folks.  To me, this get along kind of quote leaves a lot to be desired.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A surplus of effort could overcome a deficit of confidence.”   —   Sonia Sotomayor

(I’m glad she said “could”.  It depends on how deep that deficit is, I guess.  Confidence trumps just about everything.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I can and do aspire to be greater than the sum total of my experiences, but I accept my limitations.”   —   Sonia Sotomayor

(Our very first – of many, I hope – quotes from Justice Sotomayor.  It’s not saying exactly the same thing, but it puts me in mind of John Lennon’s:  “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”  from “Beautiful Boy”.  We should have dreams and aspirations, but life is going to happen to us, whether we plan it or not.  Enjoy your weekend.  Enjoy your life.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
