Jumble Spoiler – 03/01/19

Visual Description:  Crime drama of TV’s golden age.

KLUSL  =  SKULL,  DBEIA  =  ABIDE,  GROEGJ  =  JOGGER,  SLENET  =  NESTLE   —   Giving us:  SKULABIEGGRNEST

Clue/Question:  When “The Untpuchables” began airing in 1959, viewers tuned in – – –

Answer:  LIKE GANGBUSTERS

(Awesome Jumble!  A beautiful literal/figurative kind of pun.  Elliot Ness and his men were tasked with busting up organized crime, aka the mob, aka the gangs.  I think the expression comes from the 1930s, with a radio show called “Gangbusters”.  It featured explosive sound effects, like sirens and gunfire.

None of the clue words are new, but all of the jumbles appear to be so.  Hey, chocoholics!  This is NOT the name of one of your favorite chocolate companies.  Nestlé is a name.  “Nestle” is a verb.  The answer letter layout was an impressive fifteen letter jumble.  Nothing obvious about it that I could see.  It took a couple of minutes for me to see the answer.

The cartoon is a wonderful period piece.  The entire family is seated around the family television set.  Probably the only one they had. The set is actually a piece of furniture, with a doily and vases atop it.  No remote, so someone had to get up and adjust/change the volume and channel dials.  Dad in his short sleeved dress shirt and tie, sporting a crew cut.  One of the sons wearing dad’s hat.  The other holding his junior detective’s badge, that he probably had to send away for, by snail-mail.  And, mom chatting away on a good, old-fashioned rotary telephone.  Heck, it might’ve even been a party line!  Lots of fun.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
