“Mighty proud I am that I am able to have a spare bed for my friends.” — Samuel Pepys
(We host a lot of “reunion” events, and my wife has a lot of relatives and friends from out of town. And, occasionally, one of my relatives comes to visit. We kind of treat our house like an inn. We should have a framed copy of this quote somewheres near our main entrance! The pronunciation of the name Pepys – “peeps” – always amuses me. It just seems so un-British. I guess it’s because it is originally French, and it came over in the Norman invasion of 1066. It always makes me think of the little marshmallow chicks, and bunnies(?), that you see at Easter time. I could never be bothered by them. Marshmallows are for cocoa and campfires! These Peeps take up valuable space that could be filled by chocolate eggs and bunnies!) — YUR
