Fun Facts Friday: Robert A. Heinlein | Man of la Book

Be wary of strong drink.  It can make you shoot at tax collectors . . . and miss.”   —   Robert A. Heinlein

(Hilarious!  And, very appropriate, considering today’s date.  I never knew that Mr. Heinlein had a good sense of humor!  Stay well, stay strong, and always do good, friends.)   —   YUR

April the 15th Cryptoquote Spoiler – 2017

We may eliminate death someday, but I doubt if we’ll ever eliminate taxes.”   —   Robert A. Heinlein

(Apologies to all of the non-American readers out there for today’s subject line.  April the 15th may not be as relevant to you, as it is here in the United States of Murica.  But ironically, due to some funky state holidays – that the fed feels they have to acknowledge – April the 15th isn’t completely relevant to us anymore!  I think we have until the 18th to file our tax returns this year.  No one is complaining mind you, but tax day is getting like the first day of a season, or something guided by the Jewish calendar.  You know that it’s roughly around a certain time, but you’re waiting for word to come down from the mountain.  Is this still Passover???  If so then Happy Passover to our Jewish readers.  And, Happy Holy Week to Catholics.  And, Happy Saturday, and the day before Easter to everybody else.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Non Sequitur

You can sway a thousand men by appealing to their prejudices quicker than you can convince one man by logic.”   —   Robert Heinlein

(People like Donald Trump – and tea partiers and neocons  – use this knowledge to their advantage, while some of us keep tilting at windmills, hoping that some will the see the light we’re trying to shine.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.”   —   Robert A. Heinlein

(Great writer, with some great quotes.  I love this one:  “Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.”  This is like the dark side to all my general positivity!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The most important lesson in the writing trade is that any manuscript is improved if you cut away the fat.”   —   Robert Heinlein

(Yet another quote about conciseness! I wonder who Rebecca is trying to get this point across to.  Don’t kill me for ending that sentence with a preposition.  I’m writing this on my daughter’s I-pad thingy!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

ps.   I forgot, this is not set up for Zemanta, so no pics or related stories.  I can’t figure out how to highlight the text for color either.  Sorry.      YUR

Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it’s supposed to do.”  —   Robert Heinlein

(It’s got to be a line from one of his works.  It doesn’t sound like something someone would say to sound profound. Not a very inspiring or enlightening quote, and it was very easy to decode.  Blehh.)   —   YUR

PS.  At least Zemanta came up with a cool picture for me to post!     YUR
