“The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.” — Ray Kroc
(When I was still a young lad, we had local burger joints that we were all happy with. Then these big chain, fast-food companies came in with their low prices. The prices were low because their portions were smaller, their quality was dubious, and because big companies can benefit from an economy of scale. I think the first fast-food burger I tried to eat was at the New York World’s Fair, probably in 1964, maybe ’65. I had to spit it out! I was used to a hamburger – remember them? – that came to you naked, and then you put whichever condiment YOU WANTED on it. This fifty cent-piece sized *burger* had ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions on it! I was horrified! Who wants all that crap on their burger? I hate pickles, and I loathe mustard. The “milkshake” was also a huge disappointment. Way too thick, and flavorless. Thank God for french fries, or else I might have starved that day. I was SO glad when the big fast-food chains finally started letting you order it your way! This appears to be the first Ray Kroc quote to come up in the Cryptoquote, since I’ve been posting the spoilers. So we welcome Ray to the Cryptoquote Club today! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
