Ray Bradbury's Greatest Writing Advice ‹ Literary Hub

Half the fun of the travel is the esthetic of lostness.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(A relatively short quote, but a fairly tough solve too.  KJT was THE, as I suspected all along.  But it took pretty much til the very end to come up with ESTHETIC.  I finally took the plunge after I – correctly – surmised the G was the F.  But that was after struggling with LOSTNESS – which isn’t an actual word – NOT being BUSINESS!  I like ones like this.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Ray Bradbury Quote - Word Bank Writing & Editing

There is more than one way to burn a book.  And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(Another very recent rerun!  I hope everything is alright with our Cryptoquote friends!  The quote that I chose is one of the things that scares me about “cancel culture”!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Ray Bradbury dies: We'll remember him as the god of pulp.

There is more than one way to burn a book.  And the world is full of people running around with lit matches.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(It’s amazing that Ray Bradbury was able to foretell the coming of “political correctness” and “cancel culture”!  I’d like to see a return to common sense, and thicker skins.  But . . . I won’t hold my breath.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

There is more than one way to burn a book.  And the world is full of people running about with matches.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(I bet old Ray is spinning in his grave about now!  With all the revisionism – from both sides of the aisle – of our history books, and the censoring of Dr.Seuss books, and calling “Gone With The Wind” racist, and on and on . . . ad nauseam,  it sure looks like every Tom, Dick and Harry . . . and their brothers are “running about with matches”!  But, that seems to be the current zeitgeist.  And, so many folks pursue this course of action with the zealotry of ISIS!  Stop tearing down what you don’t like, and concentrate on building something you DO like.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Fantasies are things that can’t happen, and science fiction is about things that can happen.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(Well, theoretically at least.  But, who am I to argue with the master of science fiction?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

My stories run up and bite me in the leg – I respond by writing down everything that goes on during the bite.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(A true giant of 20th Century American literature!  He says that he wrote everyday of his life, from around age 12 on.  I guess that means he was bitten every day!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

You’ve got to jump off the cliff all the time, and build your wings on the way down.”   —   Ray Bradbury

(Kind of the counter-quote to yesterday’s Jackie Joyner-Kersee quote!  Of course, it’s kind of hard to tell if these were Ray’s words to live by, or just describing something like his writing process.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
