The 'Ugly' Secret Behind Prince's Epic Guitar Solos

Despite everything, no one can dictate who you are to other people.”      Prince

(What an awesome, multi-talented musician Prince was!  They say he could play at least 27 instruments!  He also composed songs made famous by other artists, like: Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, The Bangles’ “Manic Monday”, Alicia Keys’ “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore?”, and Tom Jones’ “Kiss”.  And he accompanied various artists, on guitar, like Madonna, Chaka Khan, and Cyndi Lauper.  Such a shame that he died so young.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  CHORDUROYS

(I like it!  I don’t think Jeff could have planned this, but the dude does bear – at least – a passing resemblance to Prince – during his ‘fro period.  Such a shame.  What a talent!  On one of his albums he played 27 instruments!  I can barely carry a tune on a kazoo!  And, the man was always in the company of the hottest eye candy!  Appolonia, Vanity, Madonna, Kim Basinger, Mayte Garcia, Carmen Electra, Vanessa Marcil, Sherilyn Fenn, Rosario Dawson, Tamron Hall . . . the list goes on and on!  I’ve been a fan of Prince’s since early 1979, when my college Friend Formerly Known as Willie Raphael turned me on to him.  He was unlike anything else back then.  In all honesty, it took me a little time to fully appreciate Prince.  I was into Led Zeppelin and Southern Rock back then.  I avoided anything that even sniffed at Disco.  And, with his flamboyant style and danceable songs, it took some time for me to see past that, and get his genius.  But his genius was undeniable.  No cause of death yet.  Could be as simple as severe dehydration caused by the flu.  Maybe it grew to pneumonia, like when Brittany Murphy died.  Oh, well.  We’ll always have his music!

No new clue words today, but all the jumbles came up as new.  I don’t think that any of them were too tough.  The answer letter layout did a great job of hiding the answer.  I was concentrating so hard on the notes that it took me a minute or two to realize they were corduroy pants.  The old folks call them whistle britches!  I wonder if the recording producer is picking up a whistling noise???  It definitely wasn’t feedback.  Fine cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
