A queen is not afraid to fail.  Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(Maybe Rebecca is getting these quotes from Pinterest!  You know, Oprah is a pretty cool, and extremely successful, woman, but I’m not finding all of her quotes all that quote-worthy.  For me, the first sentence of this quote is completely unnecessary.  The second sentence definitely has more merit to it.  What do you guys think?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cheers to the new year and another chance for us to get it right.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(Pretty much every quote has its roots in an earlier quote.  But, a positive quote is a thing of beauty!  Be happy, healthy, well and prosperous in this new year, folks!  And, always strive to do good.)   —   YUR

It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you come from.  The ability to triumph begins with you.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(Sure, it has to begin with you.  But, there are scads of people who tried their darnedest, but just couldn’t make it.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(Great quote!  Although, I don’t really consider falling from the high wire tumbling.  Tumbling is more like somersaults, or tripping over something.  Me fall down, go boom.  Falling from a high wire can be downright fatal.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(Maybe not financially, but at least spiritually.  Grateful people are generally happier people.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

You know you are on the road to success if you would do your job and not be paid for it.”   —   YUR

(I don’t think Oprah came up with this quote when she was a struggling, low-level reporter.  Unless you’ve made boatloads of money already . . . everybody wants to be paid.  And, could we take a break from all these “success” quotes, please?  The word is just so identifiable, no matter the cipher.  It becomes like a key to the entire Cryptoquote.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Step out of the history that is holding you back.  Step into the new story you are willing to create.”   —   Oprah Winfrey

(Whether, or not, we’re fans of history, our own pasts seem to have a strange hold on us.  But, we do have it within us to create our own stories.  We can transcend our histories by putting our minds to it.  Thank you, Ms. Winfrey!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Such a chick statement!  LOL!  Of course the manly, male, macho, masculine response to that is:  My idea of heaven is a big, juicy steak with a big baked potato . . . and a couple a beers.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Count your blessings, people!  If you need a reminder of how good you actually have it, think about the people who have lost EVERYTHING, due to Hurricane Sandy.  So many shore towns in New Jersey have been totally devastated.  But also cities such as Hoboken, New Brunswick and Jersey City were severely damaged by flooding, and MANY are still without power, and, of course, heat.  Parts of Staten Island were decimated, and hundreds there have been left homeless.  The death toll for New York City alone is up to 41, with 19 of the fatalities coming from Staten Island.  Manhattan’s Lower East side was also hard hit.  I have friends in Long Beach, Long Island who lost everything to flooding.  And, much of Brooklyn and Queens were totally wrecked by this freak storm, especially The Rockaways.  But the worst of the worst is Breezy Point, NY.  While these people were dealing with the rising flood waters, and the 70+ mile an hour winds, a monstrous fire broke out.  The high winds carried the burning embers to so many rooftops, resulting in the eventual, inevitable, total loss of over 100 houses.  Hundreds of people there have absolutely nothing to go back to, including – ironically – many FDNY and NYPD members.  In the spirit of counting your blessings, please consider making an emergency contribution on behalf of all who were adversely affected by this horrible “frankenstorm”.  Here are a few organizations that I think would be the most appropriate for your consideration:

The American Red Cross

The Salvation Army

Feeding America

New York Cares

The National Firefighters’ Endowment

and for all our affected furry, finny and feathered friends:

The Humane Society of the United States

The American Humane Association

North Shore Animal League America

Whatever you can spare, I know it will be greatly appreciated.  Be well and do good, friends.
