Clue/Question:  The lawyers in the courtroom were – – –

Answer:  BEING JUDGED

(I object, your honor!  On what grounds?  On the grounds that I . . . er haven’t had my morning coffee yet???  Overruled.  That judge looks like the lawyer from the 1-800 Lawyers commercials.  Boy, that guy looked stern.  I bet the dude won with his glowering stares alone.  Under his examination, I’d probably admit to crimes I didn’t even commit!  Oh, yeah.  Nice pun.

At first glance of the ralis95 clue word database, it appeared that we had two new clue words today, in “geese” and “gabby”.  But, upon checking my WordPress Tags, “esege” was already there.  Which tells me that we have seen “geese” before – most likely on a Sunday – and it escaped the notice of the man that I like to call “The Boss”.  For his purposes then there are two new clue words, but not for the others who are keeping count at home.  To my tired eyes, even “gabby” seemed familiar.  But, I might be confusing it with baggy.  They were all fine jumbles, but none of them tripped me up.  The answer letter layout was a dandy of a jumble.  But with those letters, and the word WERE in the clue/question, you just knew that one of the words had to be JUDGED.  GEBNI gave me BEING, because BEGIN JUDGED makes no sense.
