John McGrath on Twitter: "Would you like to work in Aarhus on psychiatric epidemiology? The Niels Bohr Professorship is advertising for a post-doctoral scientist. @GrundforskFond We have a great team of researchers

Your theory is crazy, but it’s not crazy enough to be true.”   —   Niels Bohr

(So, the crazier a theory is . . . the truer it’s going to be???  Hmm.  I’d like to know the context of this quote.  Who was he saying it to, and why?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The opposite of a great truth may well be another profound truth.”   —   Niels Bohr

(We tend to be so locked in to our own great truths that many of us don’t consider this.  Being creatures of habit is very comfortable, but it is also very limiting.  Our perception of the universe is constantly evolving.  Our thinking needs to be open and flexible.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Niels Bohr and Albert Einstein. The picture was taken at Ehrenfest’s home in Leiden, the occasion was most likely the 50th anniversary of Hendrik Lorentz’ doctorate (December 11, 1925). (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

(There’s not much cooler than being a physicist!  I wish that someone had sold me on math when I was young.  I had always loved science, but struggled with mathematics.  And, no one explained to me how they were connected.  I wish the television show “Numbers” had been around when I was a kid.  Things might have gone in a completely different path if I’d been shown that light.  Oh, well!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Assuming he/she is smart enough to learn from their mistakes.  Sometimes I feel like I’m making the same mistake over and over again.  Kind of like Groundhog Day.  I tweak things a little bit, but the result is still the same.  In the movie, Bill Murray eventually gets things right.  In real life we don’t get that many chances.  Where am I going with this?  Who knows?  Who care?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Your theory is crazy, but it’s not crazy enough to be true.”   —   Neils Bohr

(This man was both brilliant and witty.  He was able to open his mind to different kinds of thought.  It is so easy to get into the rut of thinking the way you usually do.  Climb out of that rut, friends!  At least try.  Peace.)   —   YUR
