(I think the bigger pun was in the cornball’s delivery! “will you be my first mate, for life?” LOL! Popular culture has convinced just about everyone that you need to do something over the top to prove that you really love someone. You have to stage your proposal, just so, so it’s either “unique”, or “clever”, or something worthy of going viral on the internet. The diamond can be no less than a full carat. Preferably larger. And from there, the fun and games – and exorbitant costs – go on and on and on and on. Understatement and subtlety have become dirty words. It’s the 21st Century version of Keeping up with the Jones’s! Some people see it, and rebel against the ludicrousness, but most have – willingly, or not – drunk the proverbial Kool-Aid. I’m so glad that part of my life is in the past.
All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends. One of the jumbles, “ccaidi” is also an old friend. The other five jumbles seem to be new. They all kind of jumped off the page for me though, with the exception of “ccaidi”. For a second, or two, I was considering Acadia!
The answer letter layout was a beautiful 16 letter jumble, but the clue/question, and the woman’s dialog made the answer pretty automatic, for me.
