Visual Description: Two hard up guys.
LITGU = GUILT, ARKCC = CRACK, UNORNE = NEURON, PEANPH = HAPPEN — Giving us: UILCRKNENPPE
Clue/Question: The Jumble creators’ favorite bread is – – –
Answer: “PUN–PERNICKEL“
(Actually created in 1954, by a guy named Martin Naydel! Back then it was called the Scramble! Then, in 1962, it was taken over by the tandem of Henri Arnold and Bob Lee. They ran with it – together – for about 30 years, with Henri continuing with Mike Argirion for roughly another 18 years! Henri was the artist and Bob and Mike were the word men. Jeff Knurek drew for a few years, with Mike Argirion, before pairing up with word-man David Hoyt. Their first Jumble together was published February 28, 2011. And, some/many of you saw the BIG announcement of their pairing, on February the 26th, and then, of course, the spoiler to their first one RIGHT HERE, on UncleRaves’s Wordy Weblog! How about that! And, Knurek and UncleRave have – loosely – been together, on the Jumble since 2008. Wow! Time sure flies, don’t it?
All of today’s clue words are tried and true. With three of the jumbles appearing to be new! We have actually seen “unorne” before. It gave me fits today, just as it did way back before!
The answer letter layout was another masterpiece of a jumble. Very cryptic, indeed. I would not be surprised if a number of you guys struggled with this one.
Cutting the dark bread, in the cartoon, may have been the biggest clue. The pups are eagerly awaiting a handout! Boy, resorting to bologna sandwiches, on bread you have to cut yourself! Times must be tough over at Tribune. I feel so bad for the guys. Maybe we can start a GoFundMe page for them. What do you think, folks? Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
