Police Officer Breaking the Law

A law is valuable not because it is law, but because there is right in it.”   —   Henry Ward Beecher

(Notice he doesn’t say that all laws are valuable!  Laws are supposed benefit or protect us, whether the many or the few.  But a law that benefits the few, to the detriment of the many, cannot be viewed as just, and should be changed.  If you’ve ever been subjected to RLUIPA you’d know what I mean.  The intentions of the law were noble, and intended to correct flaws in earlier laws.  But, whereas it was designed to be more of a shield for the few, it is often being used to bludgeon the many.  It stands for the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, and the big mistake, in my opinion, is that it’s one law that would be better served if it were two laws.  Institutionalized persons religious rights are, and should be, a separate issue from religious land use.  Lumping them together was both lazy and foolish, again, in my opinion.  As a tax paying property owner, guess which part I, and many many people like me, have a problem with?  There are some other aspects of it that I don’t like as well, but I won’t go into all the messy details here.  But if you have the time, feel free to “Google” it, to see what I mean.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
