An obsession with incompetence that he parlayed into his best-selling book; The Peter Principle; has led Dr. Laurence J. Peter; former Vancouver professor; to write another 11; including latest; Why Things Go

Make three correct guesses consecutively and you will establish a reputation as an expert.”   —   Laurence J. Peter

(Not as difficult as last Sunday’s Laurence Peter Cryptoquote, but still not a gimme.  The Y’s as A’s made for a great starting point.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Psychiatry enables us to correct our faults by confessing our parent’s shortcomings.”   —   Laurence Peter

(I wonder if Dr. Larry Petey had any idea, when he said this, that it was going to make for one of the toughest Cryptoquotes of all time!  I was almost going to give up on this one, and throw myself on the mercy of the readers.  I was 99.9% sure the K was the S, but that was about it.  With that in mind, I went out on a limb and supposed that NK was US and LB was TO.  Then something BNJ could be OUR.  Then, I was able to surmise/guess the TDI was ING.  Finally, I was able to see CONFESSING.  Then CORRECT.  From there things fell neatly into place.  The other tough thing – in my newspaper at least – was the last word was broken down, from one line to the next, as KSBJLO-

BETTDIK.  I couldn’t be sure it was two words hyphenated, or one long word that ran out of space on one line, and continued on the next.  I now know it’s one long word, but the break is not a logical break.  But, I suppose the newspaper people wouldn’t know this, unless THEY solved it first themselves.  And, that seems highly unlikely!

Great quote though!  Be well – and if you’re not well don’t simply put all the blame on your parents – and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Originality is the fine art of remembering what you hear but forgetting where you heard it.”   —   Laurence J. Peter

(Very clever!  I had to play the percentages on the author.  J. Peter was the best bet, but one couldn’t rule out P. Jeter.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The reason crime doesn’t pay is that when it does, it is called by a more respectable name.”   —   Laurence J. Peter

(Funny/sad . . . but true!  However, with today’s uber concentration of wealth . . . there are now fewer criminals!  Hey!  You take the good where you can.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A man doesn’t know what he knows until he knows what he doesn’t know.”   —   Laurence J. Peter

(Ya know?  I bet Art Shapiro is going to be angry with this one!  There was no way to know – figure out – this guy’s middle initial.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Psychiatry enables us to correct our faults by confessing our parent’s shortcomings.”   — Laurence Peter

(I was almost going to give up on this.  I was pretty certain from the onset that “k” was “s”, but entertained the idea of it being “e”.  The “bj” combination in “correct” had me thrown for a LONG time, especially considering “bnj” to be “the”, “are”, “not”, “for”, “who”, “why”, “how”, “art” and “act”.  Also, and I don’t know if every newspaper ran it this way but, the coded word for parents’ was split up into fp- on one line and jadlk’ on the next.  The toughest – overall – Sunday word games that I’ve ever come across!) —   YUR
