Jumble Spoiler – 02/07/19

Visual Description:  Elementary science lesson.

HAFIT  =  FAITH,  HESOW  =  WHOSE,  KMYISP  =  SKIMPY,  SIRALO  =  SAILOR   —   Giving us:  AITHOSSKMSLO

Clue/question:  The caterpillar went through metamorphosis, and everything had gone – – –

Answer:  SMOOTH AS SILK

(Ooh!  This is a good stinky pun.  At first, I wasn’t really seeing it.  I figured it had to be blank AS blank, but then the word “fabric”, in the teacher’s dialog, set off the bells.  Blank AS SILK?  What fits with the way the the clue question was phrased?  Ah, SMOOTH AS SILK!  Good ‘un!

All of today’s clue words are familiar old favorites.  We have seen the jumble “hafit” before, but all the rest came up as new.  I was able to get all the clue words immediately.  The answer letter layout was a cryptic 12-letter jumble.  Not obvious, in the least.  I’m sure that some of you were scratching your heads over this one.

Cute classroom cartoon.  I love the fact that the kids look so engrossed with the moths, and the process of making silk.  What is it, moth caterpillars – known as silk worms – make/spin cocoons, while butterfly caterpillars form chrysalises?  A chrysalis is hard and brittle, and essentially useless to man.  But, the soft fibers of the cocoon can be woven into a fine fabric.  I think I have a pair of silk pajamas around here somewhere.  Maybe, I’ll try to dig them up.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
