Jumble Spoiler – 02/23/19

Visual Description:  High school track and field.

NOYIR  =  IRONY,  INAPO  =  PIANO,  GDYALL  =  GLADLY,  MLUTEB  =  TUMBLE   —   Giving us:  INIAGDTMB

Clue/Question:  When the track coach’s stopwatch wouldn’t work, it was – – –

Answer:  BAD TIMING

(Oh, yeah.  That’s definitely a stinky pun.  Not a prize winner, by any means.  More of an also ran.  Guess who is never an also ran?  Katelyn Tuohy.  With this young lady, it’s never a matter of if she’s going to win.  It’s always more a matter of by how much!  I think I saw her in Walmart last week.

All of today’s clue words are familiar old friends.  And, two of the jumbles have been used before too.  Only “noyir” and “mluteb” are coming up as new jumbles.  The answer letter layout is a fine 9-letter jumble.  It did a swell job of disguising the final answer.

Great outdoor high school track scene.  It looks like the coach is trying to use a fancy digital stopwatch, instead of the old “60 Minutes” style stopwatches.  I think this is still the season for indoor track though.  I could be wrong.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 07/25/18

Visual Description:  Winning the big race.

LAPTN  =  PLANT,  BIHTA  =  HABIT,  LWWIOL  =  WILLOW,  FAYTIR  =  RATIFY   —   Giving us:  ANTHAIWIWRATY

Clue/Question:  The marathoner’s finish wasn’t even close.  The winner – – –

Answer:  RAN AWAY WITH IT

(Wow!  Just like a Katelyn Tuohy race!  Did you see her on the ESPY Awards?  She won the High School Female Athlete of the Year award, presented to her by retired soccer player Abby Wambach.  And, she’s just going into her Junior year.  Remarkable kid.

All of today’s clue words are old favorites.  Two of the jumbles came up as new, but they’ve definitely used “bihta” and “lwwiol” before.  The answer letter layout was a super cryptic jumble.  Not obvious, in the least.  I think the blocking for the answer was what helped me get the answer so quickly.  Good pun.  Not too stinky.

Great cartoon.  Good use of perspective.  You can see that the number 2 guy is WAY back!  The first spectator, behind the barricade, looks like she is incredulous!  Everyone else is all smiles.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 07/05/18

Visual Description:  “Climbing up on Solsbury Hill“.

SSLAA  =  SALSA,  CNFEE  =  FENCE,  GNMINI  =  MINING,  RIFDOB  =  FORBID   —   Giving us:  LSNCEINOID

Clue/Question:  Running up a hillside can be great exercise if you are – – –

Answer:  SO INCLINED

(I guess this begs the question:  Is there such a thing as a high pun???  Snooty types would definitely argue NO.  But, we don’t allow snooty types on this blog, now do we???  Hell’s Bells No!  “Elements of Style”?  “Elements of Style”??  We don’t got no “Elements of Style”!  We don’t need no stinkin’ “Elements of Style”!!!  BLAM, BLAH, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM!!!

Phew!  Are the bandidos gone?  Maybe, we can get back to the Jumble now.  Would you believe . . . we actually have another two new clue words today?  Yes, indeedy!  Both “salsa” and “mining” have somehow eluded the Jumble mavens, until today.  These words will need to be added to the – world famous – ralis95 clue word database.  I think Hoyt has been enlisting his dad’s help, in coming up with new clue words.  I hope Hoyt puts him on the payroll, because he is earning his keep!  All of the jumbles came up as new today.  None were terribly tough, for me.  The answer letter layout was the toughest of today’s jumbles.  My initial feeling was that the first word was going to be IN or ON.  Possibly NO.  But, maybe because of the cartoon’s dialog, I was able to lean into the answer.

Nice, outdoor, cross-country cartoon.  It got the job done.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  The girl above the answer is Katelyn Tuohy!  She just finished her sophomore year in high school, and she already owns just about every record in cross-country, and indoor and outdoor track!  She’s been running varsity since the seventh grade!  Look up articles on her, and be amazed!     YUR
