Portrait of Johann Caspar Lavater | Theologian, Portrait, Writer

He who can at all times sacrifice pleasure to duty approaches sublimity.”   —   Lavater

(“All times”?  That’s a little harsh.  When I was a younger man, duty was more important to me.  But now, as I grow older, I’ll take my pleasures while I still can.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Never say you know a man until you have divided an inheritance with him.”   —   Johann Kaspar Lavater

(Those kind of things can be very contentious.  Someone is bound to think that they’re entitled to a little bit more.  Or, that so and so got a little bit more.  Usually, it’s pretty inconsequential.  But, there are times, in some families, where one member greedily grabs far more than his/her fare share.  That always ends with hard feelings, and/or shattered relationships.  Just honor the wishes of the deceased, and try to be equitable with whatever isn’t specified in the will.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
