Schiller in Central Park – Dianne L. Durante, Writing Addict + Adept

Man is an imitative creature, and whoever is foremost leads the herd.”   —   Friedrich Schiller

(The brilliant German playwright of the latter 18th – to early 19th – Century.  A very forward looking fellow, during the last third of his all too short life he was best buds with Goethe.  He believed that “art, rather than religion, plays a central role in the morel education of an individual.”  He was a Rock star in his day!  Unfortunately, he died at the age of 45, from tuberculosis.  His bust was the first sculpture installed in New York City’s Central Park, along the Poets Walk, in 1859.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Frasi di Friedrich Schiller

The jest loses its point when he who makes it is the first to laugh.”   —   Johann Friedrich von Schiller

(Some comedians laugh at their jokes all the time.  It’s almost as if they feel they have to cue their audience.  While others deliver their quips with classic deadpan.  The best at deadpan humor was/is Steven Wright!  His jokes were never obvious.  You had to think to get them.  And, he had the patience to wait for you to get them.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

It is not flesh and blood, but heart which makes us fathers and sons.”   —   Friedrich Von Schiller

(Sometimes you’re lucky enough to get all three!  And, of course, this also applies to mother and daughter, father and daughter, and mother and son.  I saw a very nice elderly father, with his son who was probably about my age, at the sports bar yesterday.  Too bad they were both Jets fans.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

He who has done his best for his own time has lived for all times.”  — Johann Friedrich Von Schiller
