Clue/Question:  The golfer’s new outfit looked great and – – –

Ladies Golf League in the Western Suburbs of Chicago | River Bend Golf Club

Answer:  FIT HER TO A TEE

(I’m kidding, ladies!  I’m kidding!  But, I do have some semi-fond memories of my caddying days.  No foursome of men EVER wanted to play behind a foursome of women.  Other than the LPGA players, it used to be that the women who golfed at country clubs were golfing mainly for social reasons.  I’m talking about the early 1970s.  The “girls” were mostly housewives, and golfing was a great way to get out of the house, and hobnob with other privileged country club wives.  Some were actually pretty good golfers – like a couple of my neighbors – but SO many didn’t have a clue . . . and were terrible at it.  Back then, it was primarily a novelty for the vast majority of women golfers.  But now, with Title IX, and enlightened attitudes, girls are taking lessons earlier, and really pursuing golf as a serious sport.  Watching golf has never been very high on my sports agenda – the same with tennis – but I will watch the women play, with the same interest as the men’s matches.

All of the clue words were par for the course.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, but we have surely seen “myhet” and “totear” in past jumbles.  I thought that “saofic” was a pretty challenging jumble.  I had to skip it, then it took me a couple of minutes to see it.  The answer letter layout was a tee-rrific twelve letter jumble.  If it wasn’t for the cartoon’s dialog, the great clue/question, and the final answer slots, this might have been a tough jumble to figure out.

Fine golf course cartoon.  She’s got her driver.  Her ball is all teed up, and there’s a little divot from the previous golfer.  It looks like a fairly long par four.  A great weekend Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
