Clue/Question: The buffalo nickel was replaced after the mint approved the – – –
Answer: EXACT CHANGE
(A perfectly acceptable stinky pun! I miss the Buffalo, or Indian Head nickel. I used to see them – some – as a kid, but nowadays you don’t see them unless some kid breaks into his grandparents’ coin collection, to buy candy . . . or whatever it is kids buy these days. Supposedly, “the coins proved to strike indistinctly”, and the dates especially wore away too easily. Too bad, because they were a stunning coin, with a beautiful Indian head on one side, and a standing buffalo on the other. Much more aesthetically appealing than the Jefferson head nickel.
No new clue words today, but three of the jumbles appear to be new. We’ve definitely seen “nicgl” sometime in the past. The answer letter layout was a semi-deceptive jumble, starting off with THE. But, you really couldn’t build off of those letters, to make a good five or six letter word, with the remaining letters.
Nice period piece cartoon. Must be 1938. They wore some nice suits back then. Oh. And apparently FDR had nothing to do with the redesign. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
